Better Gmail 2 Updated [Updates]

Saturday, March 6th, 2010

Google’s Gmail tweak broke some of the more popular features of my Better Gmail 2 Firefox extension this week, including Folders4Gmail and Hide Spam Count. Thanks to the quick work of Arend v. Reinersdorff, the problems have been fixed. If you’re a Better Gmail 2 user and your labels aren’t collapsing properly or your Spam count is showing when it shouldn’t, hit the “Find Updates” button in Firefox’s Add-ons dialog to get the fix, or download the most recent version directly from Mozilla Add-ons. Thanks for your patience and for using the extension. As always, news and discussion about the whole series of Better extensions is always posted on the mailing list.

Latest Google Chrome Dev Release Crashing on Offline Gmail [Annoyances]

Friday, March 5th, 2010

Tipsters like theworldisasheep saw it, this editor confirmed it, and Google even mentioned it in their blog post, at the very end: the latest release of their Chrome browser often crashes when loading Gmail with Offline enabled. It will likely get fixed in a small new update coming soon, but in the meantime, if you’re desperate to get back into Gmail without your browser dying, you can create a temporary bookmark to the no-labs version of Gmail head to your Options, switch to the “Under the Hood” tab, click “Gears Settings,” and click the “Remove” link next to Gmail and Google-related items. You may lose your offline data for now, but you’ll be able to re-synchronize it when two of Google’s best products finish duking it out. [Google Code]

Ubuntu 10.04 to Include Built-In MP3 Store [Ubuntu]

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Looking to further its mission of making your software, and your media, free of restrictions, Ubuntu is bundling an Ubuntu One Music Store into 10.04, the next release of the Linux operating system due out in April. The store uses 7Digital as its provider, likely due to its greater international availability than Amazon’s own offering, and looks to be integrated into the Rhythmbox music player. The Ubuntu One name implies a likely connection with the cloud-based file syncing service, and a blogger who came across a preview interface says each track purchased can be downloaded 3 times on different computers. Hit up his post for more screenshots and details, and tell us what you think of Ubuntu’s move into the music market in the comments. [popey.com blog via Download Squad]
